Definitions
As primary taxpayerThe person whose name and social secucrity number appears first on a tax return. On jointly filed returns, though both filers are considered taxpayers, only one can be regarded as the 'primary taxpayer.' Taxpayers in this context refer only to those who filed individual federal income tax returns.
