Victim

Victims only include people 12 and older.

Intimate partner

Intimate partner violence includes victimization committed by spouses or exspouses, boyfriends or girlfriends, and ex-boyfriends or ex-girlfriends.

Rape

The Bureau of Justice Statistics groups both rape and sexual assault into the same category. Rape is defined by the Department of Justice as forced sexual intercourse including both psychological coercion as well as physical force. Can be of the type vaginal, anal, or oral penetration by the offender(s). This category can also include incidents where the penetration is from a foreign object such as a bottle. Also included is attempted rapes and verbal threats of rape. Sexual assault is defined by the department of Justice as a wide range of victimizations, seperate from rape or attempted rape. These crimes include attacks or attempted attacks generally involving uwanted sexual contact between victim and offender. Sexual assaults may or may not involve force and include such things as grabbing or fondling, as well as verbal threats.
