TUESDAY - 29 ACROSS: ONCE UPON A BLOODY SPRING DAWN

I thought there might be horses. Besides that, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the historical re-enactment of the Battle of Lexington.

MONDAY - THE RE-EDUCATION OF JON PITTS-WILEY: IF I COULD BUT FORGET

Do you know what you get when you join an explosive temper with good home-training? You get a guy who spends a good deal of time trying to get that angry/anxious feeling off his chest in a way that doesn't involve acting out. I'm an emotional eater.

FRIDAY - MAKING ROUNDS: LIFE? WHAT LIFE?

It’s 6:45 pm on Saturday, and I just woke up. In my defense, I only got to bed at 10:30 this morning. I’m “post long call,” meaning I just finished a 30-hour shift in the hospital.

THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: DEEP THOUGHTS

MONDAY - THE RE-EDUCATION OF JON PITTS-WILEY: ONE MONTH LATER

My life is crazy right now. It's not "trapped under a building with no means of escape" crazy, but it is definitely "this is real life and there's no such thing as a timeout" crazy.

FRIDAY - MAKING ROUNDS: MY FIRST TIME

Part of what makes third year fun is that everything is a new experience. And oh my God are third years excited to be having them! My friends and classmates have “oohed” and “ahhed” over the most ridiculous things. The one “first” that no one looks forward to with excitement, however, is your first patient death.

THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: NEVER ENOUGH

Satisfaction increases with the number of kids? This finding is so contrary to my personal experience that it’s hard to swallow.

WEDNESDAY - LETTER FROM AFGHANISTAN: "SIR, WE HAVE SOMETHING"

I am standing in the pitch black of the early Afghan morning. This is part of the military: hurry up and wait.
