THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: ANATOMY OF A TANTRUM
This morning’s cycle of doom started off when a friendly parent who had already gone through the front door opened it for Finn. Big mistake.
THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: MOVING ON?
I’ve had an odd case of wanderlust lately, and not just thirst for travel, which is a permanent condition with me, particularly since I’ve had three kids who aren’t the world’s best travel mates. I’ve been thinking a lot about moving.
THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: THE HARD TRUTH
When I map out my family’s weekly schedule I literally give myself a headache. We’ve turned ourselves into scheduling contortionists to avoid putting our children in full-time day care.
THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: THE YELLER
One of my absolute worst attributes as a parent is my occasional inability to control my temper. I’m not a raging lunatic, but I do tend to yell.
THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: DEEP THOUGHTS
Motherhood can be so complicated. It’s never about hating it or loving it, about feeling incredible joy or deep dissatisfaction. It’s about feeling all of that, plus more, sometimes in the course of a single hour.
THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: NEVER ENOUGH
Satisfaction increases with the number of kids? This finding is so contrary to my personal experience that it’s hard to swallow.
THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: GOODBYE BIG JOHN
My grandfather died this week at the age of 88. We were all so lucky and thankful to be there with him and for the fact that he didn’t suffer for as long as he could have. Sitting in his hospital room while he floated in and out of consciousness, I thought about the legacy my grandfather will leave.
THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: MOLLY, MASTER PAINTER
In my constant pursuit to believe that there is more to me as a person than a mother, wife, and employee, I’m always signing up for classes or taking on hobbies that A.) I don’t have time for and B.) I frequently have absolutely no talent for whatsoever.
THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: WHAT MOTHERS GIVE UP
There is much you give up when you become a parent, more than just travel or the hobbies you once enjoyed. When you choose to open the door to becoming a parent you are also closing other doors.
THURSDAY - KNOCKED OFF BALANCE: NATURE OR NURTURE?
Since having kids I’ve come to believe that a great deal of what makes us who we are is there from that start. We have turned out three kids who are incredibly different in all ways, from their looks to their aptitude to their interests, and they’ve been that way from day one.
