Live from the Olympics: and baby brother makes two

I can’t even tell you how much fun I have been having at the Olympics. I have been trying to do it all. See events, sight-see Vancouver, sign autographs, and take pictures with fans, party it up, and just enjoy the Olympic spirit. The most important thing to me is cheering on my other fellow American athletes. I was up at the women’s downhill and saw Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso go 1-2. My family and I went to short track speed skating and saw Apolo Ohno make history when he became the most decorated American athlete ever at the Olympic Games. And last night we were at the P & G Friends and Family House watching USA Hockey dominate Canada.
I haven’t been staying at the village so I can’t give you any athlete gossip, sorry! I never get to see my family and friends during the winter time so it is wonderful to get to spend quality time with them here.
On an even better note, my brother was the first alternate for this Olympic Games and four short days ago, he got the call that he would be competing. His teammate Dylan Ferguson had surgical complications and had to drop out of the aerial competition. Scotty and Dylan are best friends so it was really hard on both of them, but I know Scotty is now jumping for more than just himself. Since we found out he gets to compete it has been mayhem at the Bahrke House. We suddenly had to make new “Go Scotty” hats and signs. We’ve been feverishly getting ready!
I am such a proud sister and will be up at the aerial site cheering him on and watching him jump his best!! Even though we didn’t get to walk into Opening Ceremonies together we will get to walk into Closing Ceremonies and I think I might cry just thinking about it. That is such an honor for any athlete, but to walk in with your little brother is truly something dreams are made of!
Yesterday we went to the Olympic Superstore and I came home with an enormous Quatchi (one of the mascots). I have to say getting a bronze medal here was cool, but walking down the street with a giant Quatchi really made me smile.
I got my nails painted red, white, and blue the other day to have a little more American spirit. This is the one time where you can be over the top patriotic and I’m really going for it! We still have almost a week of watching events and spreading the Olympic spirit left and I’m going full steam ahead. I hope you have enjoyed watching the Games from home. It has been a super fun last week and I’m cheering for all of you when I go to see athletes compete. Thanks so much for all of your well wishes, it really means a lot to me. GO USA!!!!
