Live from the Olympics: Press Conferences and Practice Runs

Waking up this morning there is still some official business to take care of. Our entire team has to do a press conference in the late morning. Before we head off to that our trainer, Alex, takes us to the local gym and we do a quick power and endurance session. Nothing crazy at this point, just getting the legs moving quickly again. We are there for about an hour and a half, then we head home to shower and get ready for the press conference. We have official USOC vehicles come to get us and take us to the International Broadcasting Center. This is where all of the media from all over the world are stationed. It is like a huge city under one roof. So in our world debut as the U.S. Olympic Freestyle Team, all they could ask us were questions about the conditions on our hill. None of us have been up to our venue yet so it was pretty funny to answer questions that we really had no idea how to answer. Basing everything on speculation just seems silly, but I think we did a pretty good job.

We barely had time to come home and have a quick lunch before we headed up to Cypress for our first training session. It was an absolutely beautiful day and training went great. We trained from 4:30—6:30 pm under the lights and I just got used to the course. There are three lines to choose from so I skied all of them and hit the jumps to find which one I liked best. They are all really good and I don’t think I’ve decided on one yet. Since there is a lack of snow at our venue (they had to helicopter in all of the snow on our course), we have to take snowmobiles down from the bottom of our course to the chairlift. It’s a bit of a wild ride because the road gets so many bumps in it; I almost flew off the back of the snowmobile several times! But my shoulders get a great workout from holding on, so there is a positive in everything!!

After training we came home, had an awesome dinner, did a cool down spin on the bike, and went to sleep.

Another day closer to competition, my heart is beating a little faster every day.
