Live from the Olympics: A Family Visit

Today was our day off and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I got a wonderful night’s sleep and woke up around 9:30. I can’t tell you how important it is to sleep well. I tend to get super nervous and then your mind just starts spinning out of control and before you know it, you’ve been tossing and turning in bed for 3 hours. But not tonight, I slept like a baby!

Again I woke up to the smell of bacon and this time I actually gave in to the temptation. I had some bacon, eggs, French toast, and home fries. One of my favorites breakfasts of all time! Our Chef Tobie really knows what he’s doing and I appreciate it more than he will ever know!

We decided to do some team bonding and went to go see the Capilano Suspension Bridge. It turns out to be a beautiful park that is filled with suspension bridges through the trees, out on to the cliffs, and also really high above a fresh mountain river. Of course we almost got kicked out within 100 feet of stepping onto the bridge because we were trying to swing on it and make it bounce (apparently that is frowned upon). It was raining so we felt completely at home in the “rainforest.” In the gift shop I bought a big stuffed animal named Quachi, he’s one of the Vancouver Olympic mascots. I’ve been wanting one forever, but had to wait until I actually made the team to get one, and today was finally the day! They also had some homemade fudge there and I have to admit I got a little hunk. I mean, who could pass up some homemade fudge!! ?

We came home, had some lunch, and did a little yoga. My mom, dad, and little bro Scotty got here so I went and hung out with everyone in the afternoon. It is so good to see them; they put up a big smile on my face. Scotty and I watched a little America’s Funniest Home Videos. The cheesiest show ever, but I love it because it just makes you laugh. It was really nice to have a good laugh with my bro, he’s the best!

Around dinner time I came home and ate a very wonderful dinner of salmon, steamed veggies, and rice. I am doing a bit of computer work now, returning some emails, and I’m soon off to bed. I’ll read my book for a little while and then it’s lights out. I am really looking forward to training again tomorrow and redeeming myself after our last day on the hill. I am skiing really well and I’ve just got to go up there and do it! So goodnight from rainy Vancouver, hopefully the sun will shine again soon!!
