THE DEATH OF THE BOOK OF ODDS MASCOT, HENRY

Tagged As: Pets, Book of Odds

The Book of Odds mascot, Henry the Bulldog, died last week.

He had been diagnosed a few weeks earlier with a brain tumor after he began having seizures. His treatment slowed the seizures and once he metabolized the phenobarbital he was very much himself again, sweet and stubborn. Fortunately, Laura, my daughter, whose dog Henry was, visited in time to spend many days with him. She had a touch that seemed to still his seizures.

“AND I’VE SEEN TRIPLES”

In developing the Book of Odds, our researchers meet weekly to review their work with each other. We often have visitors. On this day our visitor was a college student, the daughter of a close friend. The presentations she saw were really varied: one researcher had just completed work on the odds associated with contraception, another one had compiled the odds on baseball.

It began with a simple question. Why are we able to get information about so many subjects so easily, yet not about the most vital and interesting subject: the probabilities of everyday life?
